PATCH FLORA – HARDANGER EMBROIDERY KITS
Hardanger embroidery is a hand technique originating from Norway. It involves satin stitch, cut and drawn threads and woven bars done on evenweave fabric to produce a textured yet airy effect that is unique. Built up in simple steps, it is much easier than the final elaborate effect would suggest!
Unless specified otherwise, KITS are worked in traditional ecru colour and contain: Zweigart 18-count Davosa fabric, Anchor perle embroidery thread, detailed stitching chart, order of working, illustrated instructions for the stitches used, helpful tips, needle and colour photograph of a worked example.
CUSHION COVER KITS also contain extra thread for making a matching cord, a zip and plain, 100% cotton fabric (with colour choice) for underlaying the front to highlight open work and to back the cushion.
CARD KITS also contain a cream card blank approx. 13 cm x 13 cm (5 in x 5 in) with a square aperture approx. 7 cm x 7 cm (3 in x 3 in), an envelope and a suitable coloured underlay. Ideal as an inexpensive try at Hardanger or as a small gift.
Card Kit No. 3
CARD NO. 3 (HCD3). Copyright Marilyn Hornby. Long satin stitch Klosters make a double outlined square. Corners are filled with clusters of four star eyelets. A central Maltese cross and whipped K motifs make up a cross shaped openwork.
Christmas Tree Decoration
BEADED CHRISTMAS TREE DECORATION (HBX). Copyright Marilyn Hornby. Approximately 5 in x 5 in (12.5 cm x 12.5 cm) diagonal measurement excluding hanging thread. A simple square design, but eyecatching due to the special threads and beads used. A central gold embroidered and beaded area is surrounded by coloured Kloster squares with the centres cut out. An ecru scalloped blanket stitch border is decorated with a bead at the point of each scallop and the finished piece is hung from a corner with a gold thread. Also included: two differently-sized needles and all the special materials used.
Card Kit No. 2

LAVENDER SACHET No. 2 (HLS2). Copyright Marilyn Hornby. Approximate size 11.5 cm (4.5 in) point to point, 25-count fabric. Open work front, solid back with heart motif, worked in deep lavender and ecru thread, laced with African violet colour satin ribbon. A more advanced project. (Note: lavender not included.)
Diamond Cushion Cover
DIAMOND CUSHION COVER KIT (HDC). Copyright Marilyn Hornby. Finished size approx. 15 in square (38 cm x 38 cm). However, since the design is 11 in square and an 18-in-square piece of Davosa fabric is provided, the cushion can be made smaller or larger, as desired. Simple to work and suitable for a complete beginner. A lattice of diamond shaped areas is outlined with kloster squares, the centres of which have been cut away. The large diamond areas alternate satin stitch stars with chequerboards of star eyelets and cut out kloster squares. See the general section on Hardanger Cushion Kits for additional information.
